Millions in philanthropic investments to go to innovative education providers from across the U.S.
WASHINGTON, DC – Over $13 million dollars will be awarded to innovative education organizations from across the U.S. in a celebration tomorrow, December 13, including the prestigious $1 million Yass Prize known as the Pulitzer of Education Innovation. Now in its third year, the Yass Prize, in partnership with Forbes, has created an exponential impact on award winners from diverse sectors who are trying to break the cycle of ineffective education that is failing students across the country.
All 33 Semifinalist organizations represented at the event will receive at least $200,000 in funding through the Yass Prize and STOP Award initiative founded by Janine Yass and her husband, Jeff. In addition, eight Finalists will each receive $500,000 for their outstanding efforts, and 31 Quarterfinalists are each receiving $100,000.
New this year, one Semifinalist will receive the Parents Choice Award. The additional $100,000 that comes with the award was decided by a vote of 65,000 parents powered by the same technology used by American Idol.
Prior to the award announcement in the evening, there will be the Forbes & Yass Prize Semifinalist Showcase, an afternoon with current Semifinalists and former Yass Prize winners. From 12pm – 2:30pm, brief panel discussions will include the growing parent movement to workforce innovations and other topics on how to improve education.
In addition to all 33 2023 Yass Prize Semifinalists, the showcase features: Janine Yass, Founder of the Yass Prize, Jeanne Allen, Founder and CEO of the Center for Education Reform and Director, Yass Foundation for Education, Ryan Craig, Author and Managing Director at Achieve Partners, and Steve Forbes, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, Forbes Media.
The showcase will be live streamed at yassprize.org/live.
Later that evening the events of the day will culminate with a gala celebration to honor the Yass Prize cohort of 2023 and reveal the grand prize Winner and Finalists. Alyssa Farah Griffin, Co-host of The View on ABC and CNN political commentator, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. While the event is not open to the public the announcement will be reported live via X (formerly known as Twitter) at 9:00 pm EST.
