BREAKING: S.T.O.P. FOR EDUCATION LAUNCHES
Yass Prize Alumni Band Together in New National Effort
MIAMI, FLORIDA — With a national election in just three weeks and one of the nation’s most pressing domestic issues failing to get the attention it deserves, leaders of award winning education organizations have renewed their resolve to make sustainable, transformational, outstanding and permissionless education accessible to every child in the United States. Focused on those core principles, S.T.O.P for Education is devoted to fueling, connecting, and accelerating transformational K-12 education providers in the United States to develop and strengthen the existing national network of Yass Prize and STOP Award awardees.
“The initiative is an independent but natural extension of the Yass Prize, which brought us all together in the most impactful community we have ever known,” said Cris Gulacy-Worrel, Founding Chair of the new effort. “With unprecedented sector, regional, educational and socioeconomic diversity as our strengths, we could not be more excited about moving forward to help one another, our colleagues and thousands more in education to STOP for education,” she added.
STOP for Education is launching from Miami, Florida, the city with the most educationally diverse opportunities for students and families, at the campus of Mater Brickell Academy (MBA), an Academica-sponsored grades 6-12 academic campus for business and entrepreneurship. There, the twenty-five semifinalists of the fourth and final year of the Yass Prize, will begin their business accelerator & bootcamp which is sponsored by GSV in partnership with CER and Forbes. They will be joined by Yass Prize alumni from every year and work toward creating exponential growth among and between their organizations.
Recognizing the importance of these unprecedented partnerships that accelerate impact with the speed and urgency our students deserve, Janine Yass said at the Yass Prize announcement in New York on September 12 that “it is time for us to step back and learn from all these great lessons that we have, to make sure that going forward, this network continues in a powerful and impactful way.”
In addition to its chair Cris Gulacy-Worrel, Vice President of Oakmont Education, S.T.O.P for Education’s Board of Directors include Taylor Shead, founder and CEO of Stemuli, Brian Curcio, co-founder of Rapunzl, Mike Long, CEO of SailFuture, Aaron Frumin, founder and CEO of unCommon Construction, and Patricia Brantley, CEO of Friendship Public Charter School. They will be developing their mission, vision and strategy this fall so that when all new lawmakers take their seats in late January, they are prepared for exponential impact.
On November 7th, members of the STOP for Education community will convene in Washington, DC for the STOP for Education Summit: The Power of Innovation, to be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Many of their efforts will be featured along with compelling commentary and conversation post-election from elected officials, and thought leaders. Registration is currently open here.
