Delaware’s First Second Language K-12 Charter School Nationally Recognized
WILMINGTON, DE. Today, Monday, February 5th, the Yass Prize for Sustainable, Transformational, Outstanding, and Permissionless Education will visit its fourth state in three weeks on the Roadshow for Opportunity with a stop in Wilmington, Delaware. This event will shine a spotlight on Odyssey Charter, a dual-language immersion multi-charter school dedicated to empowering students with the Greek saying of “Filotimo” – finding their voice – on their 36-acre campus.
Odyssey Charter, established in 2006 as the state’s first mathematics-focused, 2nd language K-12 school, has grown to serve over 2,200 students. In a unique partnership with the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Delaware, Odyssey Charter recruits credentialed instructors from Greece to co-teach with American educators. Head of Schools Elias Pappas, who faced language barriers in his own educational journey growing up, is committed to providing his diverse student body with every opportunity to learn the language of democracy.
The event, open to the press, begins at 10:00 am with a tour and discussion about Odyssey Charter’s innovative model, where Yass Prize leadership will visit and observe the elementary, middle, and high school campuses, observing teachers in action and students engaging in this dual-language learning approach.
This event is closed to the public. Media representatives interested in attending or interviewing participants should contact:
