Roadshow for Opportunity to host award-winning educators, state lawmakers and AL Governor Kay Ivey.
MONTGOMERY, AL. This Thursday, January 18th, The Yass Prize for Sustainable, Transformational, Outstanding and Permissionless Education launches its multi-state Roadshow for Opportunity with its first stop to Montgomery, AL, footsteps away from Dr. King’s church, to visit $1 million Yass Prize winner Valiant Cross Academy.
The event, which is open to the press, begins at 10:00 am with dignitaries and officials joining students in grades 6 to 8 for their daily Village School Assembly, moving on to an official tour before a press conference which will feature Yass Prize co-founder Janine Yass and Alabama’s 54th Governor, Kay Ivey.
Valiant Cross Academy sits in the heart of downtown Montgomery, Alabama and just across from the church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ended the Voting Rights March. The founders Anthony and Fred Brock felt compelled to address some of the clear challenges that plague young men of color, combining an atmosphere of love, discipline, and a dedication to high expectations. Many in Valiant Cross Academy’s first graduating class in 2022 were the first in their family to receive a diploma. Students at Valiant Cross Academy are significantly better educated than students confined to the state’s public schools in comparable communities.
With the $1 million Yass Prize, Valiant Cross Academy will expand throughout their state and others with parental choice programs, which is what gives low-income students access to the kind of exceptional education Valiant Cross offers.
