About
Chesapeake Bay Academy (CBA) was founded in 1989 by a group of parents whose children required specialized instruction to achieve academic success in the classroom, particularly to serve the highly transitory military families that enter its school community who are later relocated to other states. The result is a school designed specifically to meet the individual needs of neurodiverse students Through a culture of educational innovation and creativity, CBA integrates technology into classrooms and focuses on real-life skills. Students even wired the school for internet access and a Microsoft Certification program was offered to upper school students. CBA looks at students holistically and designs project-based learning to help kids grow academically and socially. Hands-on experiences are also integrated across the curriculum and highlighted in the Makerspace, culinary arts, and sensory gym. If CBA earns the million dollar Yass Prize, its priority will be on developing a multifaceted program of virtual learning, special education research, and technology integration, toward creating effective virtual and hybrid programs for special education students. They would look to establish a sister campus in San Diego, California, a west coast hub for Navy personnel with exceptional family members.
