About
Brothers Liberating Our Communities (BLOC) is a professional network of Black male educational leaders working to uplift communities through racial-equity-centered education work. Since 2016, BLOC has been dedicated to recruiting, retaining, and advancing Black men through careers in education, thereby transforming the landscape of traditional education. BLOC programs provide measured and calculated avenues for Black men to enter and be sustained in the field of education for a lifetime. By increasing the number of Black men in the educational system, BLOC increases achievement among all students and creates more opportunities for students in the urban core. BLOC’s work will lead to a pipeline of Black male leaders who will have the leverage to impact systemic change in the Black educational community. Receipt of the $1 million Yass Prize would allow BLOC to expand the tools, resources, and support it offers to future Black male educators through the Akoma Ntosa Fellowship and BLOC Building professional development programs.
