Families Empowered closes the opportunity gap for low-income families that are looking for schools beyond, or in addition to, their zoned school. Most education resources are directed at students, or schools, and not at parents directly, despite recognizing the critically important role parents play in their children’s educational health and success. Families Empowered exists for parents, to give them the tools and resources they need to make personalized educational and schooling decisions for their children. Families Empowered trusts parents to make good decisions for their children and directs all of its resources and strategy to them and has built a unique communications and data infrastructure based on 14 years of parent feedback and direct parent service. If awarded the $1 million Yass Prize, Families Empowered would use the funds to more rapidly expand its services both within and outside of Texas.
